The Cook Collection
The VW Beetle is an automotive icon. Though German-born, its compact, eye-catching design quickly gained global fame.
This 1978 VW Beetle convertible is one of the last models from the original 1938 design. Initially commissioned as a “people’s car,” Hitler envisioned a spacious, 62 mph, 32 mpg vehicle at an affordable price. Ferdinand Porsche brought it to life with a simple, cost-effective, air-cooled design.
Over time, Volkswagen redefined the Beetle as a beloved symbol of freedom, fun, and nostalgia.
This illustration, part of The Cook Collection by Joshua Van Engen, was created using watercolor, acrylic paint, and various inks on premium 23x30 French-pressed watercolor paper.
